Heavy downpours caused postponements and matches to be abandoned across the South Notts Cricket League.

Only 14 of 70 scheduled matches went ahead, with only three teams from the Advertiser area in action.

Division A

Balderton stay sixth in the division, despite suffering their fourth defeat of the season to Hucknall 1sts.

The start of the game was delayed by heavy rain, which also caused the match to be shortened to 38 overs per side.

Asked to bat first, Balderton put on 32 for the first wicket, mainly due to a quick 28 runs from Tim Clipsham.

The main partnership from the Coronation Street side was between Chris Dobbie and Ian Sellars, which produced 52 for the fifth wicket. Dobbie top-scored with 52 runs as Balderton scored 152 for nine.

In reply, Hucknall’s South African player Dale Campbell opened the innings and remained unbeaten with a fine 85 not out to win the match by six wickets.

Balderton’s best bowler was Luke Endley who took three for 54.

Division B

Table-toppers Belvoir 1sts proved too strong for Southwell 1sts, who were beaten by 107 runs.

Belvoir’s Olly Clayfield struck a brilliant 103 before he was finally dismissed, caught by Devon McCarthy off Zac Ashworth.

Ashworth and Grant McCarthy both took two wickets each, but the damage had already been done as Southwell found themselves in a difficult position having to reach 266 to match Belvoir.

Southwell lifted themselves from 23 for two to 118 for three thanks to a fine stand between Mark Foster and David Rimmer, but the batsmen could not keep up with the run-rate and had to hang on to scrape seven bonus points after finishing on 159 for five.

Division N

Fiskerton 2nds took full advantage of the other cancellations in the division to move up to second in the table by defeating Sutton Bonington 2nds by 37 runs thanks to excellent bowling by Paul Orgill.

After officials decided the game would be reduced to 36 overs per side, Fiskerton batted first and set Sutton Bonington a target of 122.

Orgill worked his magic from the bowling end, taking five wickets for 24, with Steve Collington also proving hugely damaging with three for seven.

Sutton Bonington were bowled out for 85 as Fiskerton earned their fourth win in five.
