Collingham Cricket Club remain top of Division Two in the South Nottinghamshire League

Collingham made a rapid return to winning ways to continue their Nottinghamshire Premier League Division Two title charge on Saturday.

The league leaders defeated Cavaliers and Carrington by five wickets to bounce back from defeat the previous weekend against Clipstone.

They had put their visitors into bat after winning the toss which looked a shrewd decision as Cavaliers crashed to 36-4.

Liam Tew took two wickets with John Miller and Max Shenton snaring one apiece to give Collingham early control of the contest.

However, Shaharyar Aslam then arrived at the crease and proceeded to take the Collingham bowling to task.

He smashed 11 fours and three sixes to finish unbeaten on 108 off 106 balls as Cavaliers and Carrington were bowled out for 207.

Skipper Burhan Alam took a further three wickets and Umar Waheed bagged a brace as Collingham kept the rest of the batting under control.

They made a strong start to their reply with Joe Saxelby and Chris Morris putting on 91 runs for the first wicket.

Although Saxelby was trapped leg before for 33, Morris and Ben Jones continued to push Collingham closer to their target.

Morris had made 72 off 71 balls which included 10 fours and a six when he departed while Jones added a further 20.

Waheed was then able to steer Colingham past the winning post with an unbeaten 37 as victory was secured in the 48th over.

The win keeps Collingham 12 points clear of second-placed Clifton Village ahead of Saturday's derby duel at Balderton.

Collingham's second and third teams both suffered defeats against Eastwood Town in the South Nottinghamshire League.

The second team lost by eight wickets in their Division C clash after being restricted to 161-8 from their 45 overs.

Alex Scott struck 46 and Ed Cooke made 38 for Collingham who were beaten in the 39th over as Eastwood passed their target with Shaun Stocks scoring an unbeaten 65 and Neil Gregory 52 not out.

The third team were beaten by seven wickets in their Division L match after closing their 40 overs on 138-8.

Opener Tom Mason top-scored with 39 while Jon Spencer collected a couple of wickets in Eastwood's successful run chase.
