Newark Rowing Club head coach Ashley Cowley and Maisie Archer Dytch compete against Hungarian Olympic team in Budapest International Cup
Newark Rowing Club enjoyed one of its busiest weeks of the year as rowers scooped top finishes across regional, national and international events.
The experienced Ashley Cowley and Maisie Archer Dytch travelled to Hungary to race in the Budapest International Cup on Saturday.
As the only two entries from Great Britain, the Newark scullers were up against some of the best in Eastern Europe, including members of the Hungarian Olympic team.
Cowley was the first to race the 3.6km course on the River Danube through the middle of Budapest.
He finished in fifth place overall, winning the Lightweight Single Sculls.
His time of 11-31 placed him in the mix with the Hungarian Olympic heavyweight scullers and 32 seconds clear of the next lightweight sculler.
Archer Dytch, racing in her first international standard event, also placed fifth out of the strong field of female scullers.
Her time of 12-44 was enough to win the Lightweight Women’s Single Scull event.
In the week, six junior Quadruple sculls took part in the National Junior Sculling Head at Dorney Lake.
The Junior 18 Quad of Jesse Hole, Oliver Robertson, James Gleed and Edward Lee were the club’s highest finish of the day, taking eighth.
The Women’s Junior 18 Quad of Neve Woodman, Emma Joy, Georgina Joy and Connie Ferrer placed 15th in their event, only a couple of seconds from the top ten.
The second Women’s Junior 18 Quad — Millie Lyons, Maisie Maltby, Phoebe Loach Martin and Sarah Durham — finished 36th.
Lucy Jarvis, Kate Revill, Molly Joyce and Kay Southwood finished in 11th place in the Women’s Junior 17 quads, completing the two lengths of the Olympic course in 14-34-5.
The Junior 16 Quad of Charles Russell, Jack Norsworthy, Theo Cadby and Edward McDermott finished in 20th place.
The last crew to race on the day was the Women’s Junior 14 Coxed Quad of Emma Cox, Emily Jackson, Ameile Hickenbottom, Eyde Heywood and Emma Joy finished in 15th place in their first national-level event.
