Regional title for swimmer
Newark Swimming Club’s Alice Thomas has been crowned regional champion after a victory in the Midland Youth Championships in Coventry.
Alice won the women’s 16-years-and-over 100m breaststroke final in a time of 1-15.68.
She also competed in four other events — the 200m freestyle, 200m individual medley, 50m breaststroke and 200m breaststroke — reaching the final in three of them.
She added a second and a fourth place to her win in the 100m breaststroke.

Alice recorded two wins for Newark Swimming Club in the final round of the Spring Competition.
The club achieved ten wins and seven personal best times to finish second overall.
Also recording individual wins were Ruth Money (2) Josh Barker (2) Lewis Illsley and Benjamin Palmer.
There were two team wins in the 12-and-under boys’ relay and the mixed cannon.
The swimmers performed well overall with a large number of second places to add to the wins.

Five members of Calverton and Bingham Swimming Club were in action in the Rotherham Metro Masters.
They collected five gold medals, five silver and two bronze.
Rachel Berryman won silvers in the 50m and 100m breaststroke, just missing gold in the 100m by 0.01 seconds.
Shelley Davis collected two silvers in the 50m butterfly and freestyle.
Vicki Schinagl swam in the 100m freestyle, before taking on the tough 400m freestyle where she finished fifth.
Matt Brentley, returning to competition after about 12 years, competed in five events and posted some excellent times to set the benchmark for future competitions.
He won gold in the 100m breaststroke, silver in the 50m breast-stroke, and bronze in the 200m individual medley and 50m freestyle.
Mark Patterson won four gold medals in the 100m butterfly, 200m individual medley, 50m and 200m freestyle.
Subject to approval, his 100m butterfly time is an East Midlands record.
