Adam Reynolds scored a hat-trick for Newark Hockey Club men’s 1st XI as they chalked up a 5-0 win in a friendly at home to Boston.

Reynolds opened the scoring and then sandwiched another goal in between strikes from Matt Hammond and Steve Littlewood as Newark led 4-0 at the interval, and he netted another in the second period.

A combined men’s 2nd and 3rd XI won 8-1 in their friendly at home to Boston, with Sam Smith (2) Ben Eagles, Danny Hendrie, Arran Coggan, Scott Robinson, Paul Halfpenny and Luke Dring on target.

The ladies’ 1st XI were also in goalscoring mood as they beat Melton 7-0 in a friendly at home. Trish Trafford (2) Hannah Coe (2) Emma Sanders, Jemma Gough and Emma Wilson to leave coach Paul Halfpenny delighted.

“To beat such a prestigious club as Melton by as big a margin as we did is a huge achievement and I am so proud of the team,” he said.

Player of the match Amy Baugh was the star of the show for the ladies’ 2nd XI who won 4-0 against Melton.

A solid performance from the team saw them totally dominate the game, keeping a penalty corner clean sheet and scoring themselves through Luce Brailsford (2) Sue Birkett and Holly Cloke.

Newark ladies’ 1st and 2nd XIs meet for the first time in a league match tomorrow when they play each other in the opening game of the Notts Premier Division season (11am).
