On Saturday, Currys AC fished the fifth leg of their league at the prolific Metheringham Fen Lake, which, after all the recent rain, was full to overflowing.

Winner on peg seven was Pete Willis, fishing a pellet feeder to the Island and late on pole and dead red maggot down the edge for 138-14-0. By coincidence, last August he won the Currys match there, off the same peg and with exactly the same weight.

Runner-up, also swapping between feeder and pole on peg three, was Martin Pestel who weighed 108-6-0, and third was Mick Warner on peg 14, alternating between feeder and pellet shallow on the long pole for 105-7-0.

Fourth place went to Reg Barrass on peg 20, fishing shallow long pole and the margins with worm for 103-14-0. Robert Blake was fifth with 90-0-0 from peg 11 and Barry Young sixth from peg six with 88-9-0.

Barry Young and Martin Pestel are well in front of the rest, each on 41 points with Barry edging a 12lb weight advantage.

Next match: Haverholme on June 21.

Southwell were at Metheringham on Sunday and Liam Cooper is still unbeaten with his club this year, notching up a six timer.

Fishing pole close in with maggot and pellet, his peg came to life in the second half of the match and he won with 127-12-0. In second, fishing meat and maggot down the edge on peg seven, was Stuart Willis with 114-11-0 and third was Ron Martin on peg 13 with 107-14-0, fishing maggot down the edge.

Fred Cooper was fourth with 97-5-0, Ricky Wagstaff fifth with 87-5-0 and Phil Hall sixth with 85-0-0.

Collingham fished a 36-peg challenge match against Barnstone at Millennium and Barnstone anglers filled the first two places.

Winner was Jamie Francis on Centenary peg 20. He fished pellet into the corner island to catch mainly mirror carp for 73-4-0.

On Centenary peg nine, Nicky West fished pellet shallow to finish runner-up with 67-6-0 and third was Keith Hage fishing pellet shallow in the margins on peg 16 Centenary for 63-6-0.

Fourth on Willow ten was Kele Redwood, fishing pole and paste for 61-8-0, fifth on Willow 20 was Roy Baldwin fishing a feeder for 51-15-8 and Howard Langley was sixth with 51-3-0 on Willow 13.

With the top six on each side counting for this first leg of three, Collingham’s 316-8-0 was too good for Barnstone’s 271-14-0.

Railway Club fished at Portland on Long Island and Barry Young won fishing both feeder and pole with pellet on peg 12 for 103-5-0 and an easy win.

Second was Ron Sutton on peg 16, fishing feeder and pellet for 60-13-0 and in third was Leanne Knott on peg 21 fishing with pole, pellet and corn for 58-2-0. Ian Young was fourth with 54-9-0, fishing with pellet on peg eight.
