Newark Parkrun a big hit on Christmas Day in Nottinghamshire

Christmas Day was celebrated at Sconce and Devon Park by 267 runners in a special, festive parkrun.

Organisers said a team of 23 hardworking volunteers encouraged the runners along the 5k course in Newark.

"There was a great range of outfits on display," said an event organiser.

"We had a good mix of people join in from competitive runners to social joggers and walkers.

"They all enjoyed the atmosphere as well as the unexpected but nice warm weather.

"Parkrun provides a great social atmosphere where we can gather for a chat before starting the run.

"After the event on Christmas Day, people rushed off to do the more traditional activities associated with the day.

"We will be back as usual on Saturday at 9am.

"All of the parkrun events are free and people travel all over to do them.

"There will also be an additional run on New Year’s Day organised by us for those who want to kick off 2024 with a free parkrun."
