Shale thrills and spills at Odsal Stadium in the G&T Robson Ltd Supreme trophy meeting

Dave Sharp made a second visit to Bradford’s Odsal Stadium on Saturday for the G&T Robson Ltd Supreme trophy meeting.

Many of the drivers took this opportunity to use the meeting to set their cars up in readiness for the World Championship final, which will be at the same stadium on August 28.

And, with a tenth row position secured on the World Championship starting grid, Sharp, of Newark’s MDS Racing, was set on getting to grips with the track.

After the heavy rain of Friday, fresh shale was laid on the surface as the drivers arrive and work on the track continued as the drivers readied their cars for their first heat.

Sharp and the V8 drivers competed over two heats, a final and a grand national race format.

Twenty cars went out in heat one, with ten being red and superstar grades, all battling for top position and trying to get past the blue and lower grades which start the race in front of them.

On the deep wet shale, this resulted in a number of collisions and the current Supreme Trophy holder Tom Spencer hit the wall and was fortunate not to roll his car.

Sharp managed to avoid most of the carnage to finish in sixth place.

Happy with the set up and after a quick check of the car for damage, refuel, and an attempt to remove some of the heavy clay like wet shale from vital parts of the car, MDS were out for heat two.

It proved to be a faster race with much of the shale having been compacted or moved to the edge of the track.

Sharp held on to finish in the points once more.

With confidence growing and the Supreme Trophy and double points at stake, the drivers went out for the final and some hard racing ensued.

Sharp, in stock car 63, took a hard hit from behind that caused him to withdraw from the race due to a mechanical problem.

Sharp is on the tarmac next at Birmingham Wheels Raceway Circuit on Saturday, August 14.
