Shona McCallin in GB squad for Argentina trip
Former Newark Hockey Club star Shona McCallin has been selected for Great Britain in their five-match series against Argentina.
The 25-year-old, of Dry Doddington, will be one of the more experienced players to take part in the games from February 10-17.
She has been picked alongside eight debutants to play against the world number three side.
After helping Great Britain win gold at the Rio Olympics, McCallin has been a regular fixture in the squad.
She most recently featured in the World Finals in New Zealand, where they lost in the bronze medal match against South Korea.
McCallin will be hoping to produce an impressive performance ahead of the Commonwealth Games in Australia’s Gold Coast in April.
Coach Danny Kerry said: “We have deliberately selected a GB squad, despite the proximity of the Commonwealth Games, to allow us to give experiential developmental opportunity of playing a world leading team to athletes at the start of the Olympic cycle.
“Argentina is my and for many of the squad, favourite place to go and play test match hockey.
“The crowds are passionate and knowledgeable and we are treated warmly by all.”
