Chris Self's RHP Sunday team are through to the quarter finals of the Willie Hall Cup after defeating Robin Hood Colts 4-2 thanks to a Leighton Nicholson hat-trick

DESPITE harsh weather, Chris Self’s RHP Sunday first team managed to take on Robin Hood Colts at the YMCA where they won 4-2 in the Willie Hall Cup.

All other Newark Alliance games including other Willie Hall trophy matches were called off due to icy conditions and frozen pitches.

Teams will now look at rescheduling those games in the future as they look to play catch-up across all competitions.

Both sides are sitting around the mid-table mark in their respective leagues with RHP Sunday 1sts playing a level above the Robin Hood Colts team.

RHP Sunday 1sts currently compete in the Newark Alliance Premier Division while Robin Hood Colts Sunday participate in the First Division.

Both teams contain prolific goal scorers with Ethan Wiesztort topping the goal scoring for Robin Hood Colts this season.

Although, Wiesztort didn’t manage to get on the board for his team in that particular game, the Robin Hood Colts showed that they could get goals against the premier division side.

Meanwhile, Harrison Holland who did not play, and Leighton Nicholson, have been especially dangerous for RHP across all competitions.

Nicholson showed why he can get the goals by hitting three out of four of RHP’s in an impressive hat-trick performance.

He was instrumental in getting the win for his side and executed his chances well.

Tom Marshall scored the other goal for the RHP side as they cruised to victory over their opponents.

The home side had been leading 3-1 at half-time before both teams secured another goal each in the second-half.

This secured RHP a 4-2 victory at the final whistle.

To Robin Hood Colts credit, they continued to fight until the end and put in a good showing in the compeition.

Ewan Robson was the standout player for the visitors as he buried a brace for his team.

Robson was quite clinical in front of goal and on another day the score could well have been closer.

Chris Self’s side are now through to the quarter finals of the competition and they await their next opponents pending the results of other games.
