Suther School teacher Jack Sykes-Wood chosen to represent England in Masters Games
A teacher from a school in Newark has been selected to represent England at hockey in a European tournament later this year.
Jack Sykes-Wood, who is Head of PE at The Suthers School, has secured a place on the England Hockey Masters team for the European Championship in July.
The tournament is taking place in the city at the Nottingham Hockey Centre in Highfields Park from June 30 to July 9.
England will come up against a variety of European nations including Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, and Wales.
Jack will also be playing in the Home Nations in June where the team will look to continue the momentum gained from winning the World Cup last year.
“This has been a massive accomplishment for me and has taken many years of practice, making mistakes and staying true to my character to achieve this prestigious level," he said.
"These are the same qualities and values we nurture in our PE students at the Suthers.”
Nicola Watkin, Head of The Suthers School, which is part of the Nova Education Trust, said:
"We are all extremely proud of Jack for his achievements.
"It's fantastic he has been selected to represent England at such a prestigious tournament.
"Everyone at the school, including staff and pupils, which him every success and, of course, will be following his progress throughout the tournament.”
