Sweeney has seaside catch of the day
The New Inn enjoyed a two-day annual match at Heronsmead Fishery near Skegness at the weekend.
Both lakes were used on both days but there was only one catch of any note — coming from number two lake.
Winner on day one on peg 13 by a clear margin was Marcus Leek, fishing his favourite method — a pellet waggler to take carp to double figures for 114-14-0.
Runner-up was Mark Liwoshko on peg five, fishing pole and corn for 48-8-0 and third was Reg Barrass on peg eight, fishing worm in the margins over dead maggots for 46-5-0.
Ricky Lale on peg 16, despite going for a swim in his peg before the match to retrieve his pole, was fourth with four carp weighing 41-5-0.
On both days lots of fish were lost along with plenty of rigs due to the large beds of lilies in both lakes.
On day two the weights were much better with winner Reg Barrass fishing the same method as the previous day on peg 19 to catch 20 carp weighing 133-2-0, which also won him the overall winners spot.
Second was Lee Baker on peg 11, also fishing worm over maggot for 85-0-0 while in third and with easily the best weight over the weekend on number two lake was Will Sweeney with 72-14-0, again fishing with dead red maggot.
Steve Baker on peg five was fourth, alternating between paste and meat to finish with 72-12-0.
Ricky Lale doubled up for the weekend, again stripping off and diving in after his number four section snapped and was dragged in by a carp to become the first double member of the Human Plummet Club.
Steve Baker is again running the popular Bob Willows Memorial Charity match at Portland Fishery on Saturday, September 27.
This year it is being held on behalf of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust charity.
Three lakes are being used for the event and there are already more than 40 entrants.

Railway Club fished at Metheringham Fen Lake where the top four nearly sat next to each other.
Barry Young won again, fishing on peg two. Starting on a feeder and switching to pole and corn down the edge he totalled 189-0-0.
In second, Ron Sutton on peg four employed the same methods to weigh 134-6-0. Ian Young on peg five was third, again fishing with corn for 130-8-0, and fourth was Chris Young on peg six fishing corn and maggot for 124-4-0.
