South Nottinghamshire Hockey Club make Thursday League final

The South Nottingham Hockey Club ladies continue their excellent league form from the season as they reached the Redhill Ladies 7s summer league final writes Marcus Bennett.

Following a stellar 2022-23 season where they remained unbeaten as they strolled up to the top of the league, Captain Eleanor Wallace entered the Bingham-based side to the summer league tournament that is being held at the Redhill ground in Papplewick.

The team had come off a dominant run in the regular season where they scored 126 goals and only conceded ten.

After 18 games in the Thursday league, South Nottingham won 11, drew four, and lost three as they came out winners alongside Trent Vale.

South Nottingham has been at the top of the Thursday League since the third week.

The leading scorers for the side have been Rose Cartwright and Alex Stevenson.

Despite such dominance, last week saw South Nottingham play out a closely contested game with the Newark ladies with neither side fielding a goalkeeper.

Instead, both teams decided to field seven outfield players which led to an exciting contest.

After a hard-fought battle, the two teams were only separated by one goal with South Nottingham taking home the victory.

The two winners of the Tuesday League will meet South Nottingham and Trent Vale in the Finals at the Redhill ground on Thursday, July 6 at 7pm.

The South Nottinghamshire team will consist of their captain Eleanor Wallace, vice-captain Freya Beaumont, Samantha Markwick, Sophie Runciman, Sophie Atkinson, Rachael Grupping, Gemma Robinson, and Ruby Ryan.
