Third-placed Leicester eased past a Newark side down to the bare bones at Leicester Grammar School on Saturday.

With just 11 players available the visitors struggled throughout against a Leicester side much improved from last season.

For the first 15 minutes the home side piled on the pressure and duly took the lead from a penalty corner.

Towards the end of the half Simon Higgs had the chance to equalise when he was played through one-on- one, however, he shot straight at the keeper’s pads, and the score remained unchanged at the break.

Newark were slow to start in the second period — conceding two goals early in the half to put paid to their chances of a fightback.

The 1st XI will be looking to bounce back from the disappointment of defeat when they travel to Nottingham Players at the weekend.
