Thomas leads way in a gutsy display
The Newark Swimming Club members had a tough task in the second round of the Sports Centre League at Worksop against the top swimmers in Nottinghamshire.
The cream of the county provided a real challenge, with Newark finishing in sixth place on the night, exactly 100 points behind the eventual winners Mansfield.
There were three first places for Newark swimmers, with Alice Thomas leading the way in the open 100m breaststroke, while James Wathen got first touch in the 15-and-under 50m butterfly, and there was a win for Ruth Money in the 11-and-under 50m breaststroke.
Will Ballard, Millie Bowes- Hall and Laura Crosby also recorded personal best times.

The final gala in the Notts Spring Minor League at Mansfield saw a fine third place for Calverton and Bingham Swimming Club.
First places were achieved by Calverton and Bingham swimmers Olivia Wallace (9-10-years 50m butterfly/backstroke) Karl Morgan (13-and-under 200m freestyle) Meg Geoghegan (11-and-under 50m butterfly) Callum Murray (11-and-under 50m butterfly) Charlotte Smith (10-and-under 50m freestyle) and Faye Henesy (13-and-under 50m butterfly).
The girls’ 10-and-under relay team of Charlotte Smith, Erika Limbrick, Nicole Goulding and Olivia Wallace excelled, winning both their freestyle and medley races.
Calverton and Bingham Swimming Club members were also in action at the inter-county Derventio Excel Open meeting at Sheffield, and listed are the top ten places achieved.
All the swimmers compete for Calverton and Bingham, although the majority also train with Nova Centurion — the Notts county squad — and were at Sheffield alongside other county swimmers.
