Newark Alliance Second Division : Top-of-the-table Grove inflict unlucky 13 on Fernwood
Leaders Grove 16 bounced back from their Willie Hall Cup disappointment to record a resounding 13-0 at home to Fernwood.
Grove were four goals ahead at the break, and didn’t take their foot off the gas as they continued their progress towards the Second Division title.
Ollie Gee scored four in the rout.
The other goals came all through the team as eight other players got their name on the scoresheet.
There were strikes from Lewis Cawthorne, Elliott Combes, Chris Dobbie, Zak Edlin and James Morris.
Substitutes Sam Willis (2) Rhys Stanley and James Stephens completed the scoring for Grove.
Muskham are realistically the only side that can catch Grove, and they kept the pressure on with a 2-0 win at Sutton-on-Trent.
Liam Bray broke the deadlock before half-time, while a second goal was added by Luke McGuiness after the break.
Muskham are a point behind second-placed Newark Cavaliers, but with five games in hand.
Cavaliers, who have played three games more than Grove, had a 2-1 success over RHP A.
After a cagey first-half, both teams went in level at the break as they struggled to create any openings.
The match improved after half-time, with Luke Barlow’s volley from the edge of the area breaking the deadlock and giving them control.
RHP responded with a Ronnie Kennedy equaliser, but Barlow popped up with a 20-yard strike to win the game and earn them a vital three points.
