Losses for Newark as competition proves too tough
Hockey across the district continued as the Newark 3rds were at bare bones against Ashby in challenging weather conditions.
The team, while depleted, still managed to get a side on to the pitch.
Despite some promising passages of play, Newark went down 8-0 against tough opposition.
The Newark side made a few inspiring runs but were unable to convert any goals.
It was a hard game for Newark who despite being outclassed, valiantly pressed on until the end.
The South Notts 3rds won against Boots 3-0 with some fast exchanges in the first few minutes setting the pace of the game.
Boots launched into frequent attacks that were parried by an astounding performance from South’s keeper Alex Heron.
A frustrated Boots sides continued to pressure the South’s goals but were unable to get any goals past the keeper.
Heroic work in midfield led to two goals by Captain Stuart Croston and a goal by Elliott Dixon to seal a 3-0 victory for South Nottingham.
Both teams played well but South Notts managed to convert their chances whereas Boots remained goal-less.
Newark Ladies’ 3rds went down 3-1 in a tough battle against North Notts.
Newark put in a strong effort, but were unable to close the gap and they lost by two goals.
A close game resulted in the Nottingham Development defeating South Notts 4ths 2-1 as the two evenly matched teams fought tooth and nail.
Ken Shapland took a skillful goal at speed for South Notts but Nottingham scrambled in two good goals in reply to take a narrow victory.
