University taught a lesson by the 2nds
Confidence is soaring in the Newark Hockey Club ladies’ 2nd XI after an emphatic 8-0 victory over last year’s fierce rivals Nottingham Trent University took them to third place in Notts League Division One.
Newark dominated play from the start, with early pressure leading to a penalty corner that was slotted away by Caz Hauton, and goals followed from Hauton again, Emma Sanders, player of the match Rachael Tongue (2) and an Ann Crockett-McLean hat-trick.
Visiting East Midlands One leaders Ramgarhia from Derby came from behind to beat Newark men’s 1st XI 6-4 in a ten-goal thriller at Magnus Sports Centre. Ian Sellars, Jules Williams, Sam Dixon and Ben Brown got the Newark goals.
Newark men’s 2nds crashed
4-0 at second-placed Nuneaton in the East Midlands One 2nd XI League to lose their unbeaten record and slip to sixth place in the table, but there was better news for the Newark men’s 3rds as they won 4-1 at home to Northampton Lions in the East Midlands Two 3rd XI League thanks to goals from Danny Hendrie, Jason Fehily, Tim McManus and man of the match Craig Barnsfield.
