Wathen makes waves for Newark at Grove
The Newark Swimming Club members were in sparkling form at the Sports Centre League gala at Balderton’s Grove Leisure Centre.
Newark finished in an excellent second place, recording 13 first places and six new personal best times, with James Wathen the pick of the boys and Alice Thomas leading the way with four individual wins.
Thomas got first touch in the open 100m individual medley in a time of 1min 11.08secs, the 100m freestyle in 1-02.33, the 100m backstroke in a personal best time of 1-11.29, and the 100m breaststroke in 1-18.95.
There were three individual wins for James Wathen in the 15-and-under 100m individual medley in a personal best time of 1-05.78, the 50m butterfly in a personal best time of 29.06 secs, and the 100m backstroke in 1min 06.81secs.
The pair both featured in the last event, the cannon relay, featuring ten boys and ten girls from across the age groups, which Newark also won.
There were also individual wins for Thomas Record (15-and-under 100m breaststroke, 1-18.72), Ben Palmer (11-and-under 50m freestyle, 24.38secs) Millie Bowes-Hall (11-and-under 50m freestyle, 33.55) Oliver Carrington (15-and-under 100m freestyle, 1mins 05.96secs) and Grace Gourley (11-and-under 50m butterfly, 38.08secs).
