Weekend of woe as ladies suffer setback
Newark Hockey Club Ladies 1st XI had a weekend to forget as they were beaten twice and lost captain Sarah Pask with a serious ankle injury.
The 1-0 defeat at Rotherham on Saturday and the 2-1 reversal at home to Long Sutton on Sunday — with the consolation effort from Jemma Gough — both came in friendly fixtures.
But, while there were no league points lost, the real loss came with the injury to the side’s skipper. Pask badly turned her ankle, and a fractured cuboid is likely to keep her out for six to eight weeks.
Newark men’s 1st XI remain bottom of East Midlands One after they suffered an eighth consecutive league defeat as they went down 3-1 at home to Derwent in a match re-arranged from December. The meagre consolation effort came from Adam Reynolds.
Southwell Brincliffe 1st XI played at home to Worksop Ladies 1st XI Notts Premier Division.
The hosts had most of the play in the first half but failed to capitalise on the possession as they went in at half-time 0-0.
The second period saw a more even match, with Worksop scoring the only goal of the game midway through the half from a short corner.
