Emma Wilson netted both goals as Newark Hockey Club ladies’ 1st XI passed their first real test of the season with flying colours.

They won 2-0 at third-placed Beeston to maintain top spot in the Notts League Premier Division with a four-point lead over nearest challengers Boots 2nds.

The ladies’ 3rd XI drew 0-0 at home to Ashfield Aztecs 2nds in Notts Division Three.

Newark men’s 1st XI stay in the bottom three of East Midlands One after going down to a fourth successive defeat at home to Tamworth. The visitors won 2-1 after Jules Willams had given Newark the lead from a penalty corner.

Newark men’s 2nd XI had a fine 4-1 win at bottom of the table Notts side Sikh Union, coming from behind with goals from Sam Smith (2) Paul Halfpenny and Luke Dring to secure the side’s second win of the season in 2nd XI East Midlands One.

Newark men’s 3rd XI slipped to a 4-2 defeat at Daventry in 3rd XI East Midlands Two, with Rob Oakley and Ben Eagles on target for the visitors.
