Win secures promotion
Newark Hockey Club’s men’s 2nd XI gained promotion with a hard-fought 4-0 victory against Ramgarhia team in East Midlands Two when they travelled to Derby’s Moorways Centre.
Ramgarhia played fast flowing hockey that defied their bottom of the table position.
They defended in numbers and made it difficult for Newark to have a shot on goal.
Newark were below par in the first half and once again it needed a stern half-time team talk from coach Sally Davies to stir the team into action.
Once Newark scored their first there was no stopping them.
Man-of-the-match Sam Smith took advantage of a through ball by Simon Sloan and slotted it past the goalkeeper.
He then made it 2-0 when Newark were awarded a short corner, scoring after receiving a quick ball from Martin Knox.
Alex Davies finished off another move after being given space by good work from Adrian Smith.
Sam Smith soon completed his hat-trick when Ben Wilson played a misleading ball that confused the defence.
