Newark & Sherwood winger Tyler Dacres recalled by Basford after impressing during loan spell
Newark & Sherwood have suffered a blow with the loss of winger Tyler Dacres.
The wideman has impressed since joining on loan from Basford at the start of the year.
United were hoping to keep him on board for the rest of the season but he’s been recalled by his parent club.
Dacres’ last match for the Highwaymen - for now, at least - came on Tuesday night in a 1-0 defeat at Ashby Ivanhoe.
He’d been named man-of-the-match at the weekend after Newark’s 2-0 win over Deeping Rangers.
Manager Romaine Graham praised Dacres’ contribution in a Highwaymen shirt.
He said: “I had a conversation with Basford and it looks like they want to take Tyler back.
“He’s been doing well, so I think Tuesday will be his last game, which is a shame.
“He came in at the start of the year and has been a breath of fresh air, to be honest.
“He’s confident, likes to get at his man, so he’s done well for us.
“He was a welcome boost, he allowed us to get a bit more productivity in the wide areas, because that’s where we were struggling.
“He’s got a good eye for goal, so it was a move that worked well.
“We wanted him until the end of the season but unfortunately for us he’s gone back.
“Hopefully he’ll get his chance at Step 3 but, if not, we’ll always have him.
“It’ll be interesting to see what happens with him.
“They had an injury so I don’t know if he’s going back to go back in or because they’re short but it’s up to them.”
Newark & Sherwood ended a run of four successive defeats with their win over Deeping.
They were unable to back it up in a rearranged game at Ashby, conceding the only goal on the hour mark.
The Highwaymen are safely in mid-table in United Counties League Premier Division North, however.
Graham’s side sit 12th going into this Saturday’s home game against Gresley Rovers, having briefly been looking over their shoulder during the losing run.
They still want to finish as high as possible but Graham also has an eye on the upcoming Notts Senior Cup final.
Newark face Hucknall on May 6 and there are opportunities for players to cement places in the starting XI as they bid to win the competition for the second time in three seasons.
“We want to finish as high as possible but over the next few weeks I’ve got to start thinking about the final,” said Graham.
“There’s going to be players that are ineligible to play, so I’ve got to get the lads going that can play.
“There’s a lot to think about now.
“I’d say we’re safe, so we can consolidate our position and look towards the final.
“Our run was so bad I was looking at the table, seeing how many points we needed to be safe, but we should be all right now.”
