Ollerton racer Richard Woods takes victory in the Eric Graveling Memorial in the 70th season of BriSCA F1 Stock Car Racing at King’s Lynn’s Adrian Flux Arena

The green flag fell on the 70th season of BriSCA F1 Stock Car Racing on Saturday at King’s Lynn’s Adrian Flux Arena with Ollerton star Richard Woods among those in action.

His season could not have had a better start than the first race in which he competed – the 2023 White & Yellow grade final, which also doubled up as the Eric Graveling Memorial – when he took a fantastic race victory.

Woods had to work his way up from the yellow grade and with five laps to go had worked his way up to third place with some great manouveres.

He was closing on Burnley’s Mark Balmer who was in second place but Sheffield’s Karl Moseley was a little further ahead.

Two laps later Moseley span out and Woods was edging closer and closer to Balmer getting everything he could out of his 500bhp V8 Chevy engine.

Entering the last lap, Woods was in striking range and sure enough entering the final bend Richard pulled off the classic stock car last bend hit which moved Balmer off line and allowed Richard to sneak up the inside and take the chequered flag a mere 0.744 seconds ahead of Balmer.

Richard was delighted by winning the first race of the seventieth BriSCA F1 Stock Car season and the small army of local fans who follow him round the country made themselves heard on the lap of honour.

“I was over the moon to win the Eric Graveling Memorial” said Richard. “I was delighted with the car which felt good throughout the race and entering the last lap I was catching Mark and did what I had to do moving him off line. I would like to thanks all my sponsors and family – without them I wouldn’t be doing any of this!”
