Bailey Brassington evaluates his boxing future
Boxer Bailey Brassington hopes to announce exciting news soon about future matches as he leaves the unlicensed boxing scene and moves exclusively to official amateur bouts, reports James Bovington.
The move will allow the Ollerton fighter to be granted a full professional licence by the British Boxing Board of Control.
Brassington has achieved some good feats in boxing already, including winning an eight-man boxing tournament in October last year in Cannock organised by Craig Tipton Promotions.
‘I’ve enjoyed building my reputation on the unlicensed scene but it’s time to move on and concentrate on getting that professional card from the Board, maybe as soon as within a couple of years,” said Brassington.
“My ambition is to be a professional boxer and to get to the top of the British rankings and maybe even beyond’ he said.
The former Dukeries Academy student who is now an engineering apprentice burst on to the Midlands boxing scene last year.
In November he beat older prospect Conor Milward and has since won bouts in two shows organised by manager and coach Neil Huntley at Revolution gym including most recently a hard-fought win against Ross Henson.
“I’m looking forward to getting into the official amateur rankings of England Boxing and then obtaining that cherished professional card,” said Brassington.
“I’m delighted that I’ll continue to train at Revolution and be both coached and managed by Neil.
“I’m so grateful to Neil for the massive amount of time and effort he has put into me and I promise to do my very best long-term to make it all worthwhile.”
Brassington will join a group from Revolution Gym flying to Hungary on June 16 to represent England in the WFC (World Fighters) European Open Championships on June 17 and 18.
“It’s going to be an awesome experience,” said Brassington who added that he loves training at Revolution..
“One that we can look back on all being together representing our country.
“Revolution is one big happy second family and we’re all buzzing to have this opportunity.
“I’m overwhelmed by the ongoing generosity of many sponsors supporting my boxing but if anyone else would like to sponsor me for this Hungary trip it would be really appreciated,” he said.
At just 18 Bailey Brassington has built a solid reputation. but also a talented and entertaining boxer enjoying much local support.
