With the river close season started and Collingham having their annual meeting, the only local competition this weekend was at Portland on Saturday when Currys AC had their second match of the year on Canal pond.

Previously well run by Tony Blake, he has passed the job on to Martin Pestell and all 30 pegs were taken and, despite being still early in the year, the venue fished really well with everyone catching.

The high numbers had been fishing well in the winter leagues and that continued with Newark’s Barry Young leading the way from peg 30, fishing pole and pellet for an all-carp catch of 153-0-0.

Runner-up was Alan Wells, fishing on peg ten, again with pole and pellet for 116-0-0, and third was Warren Loosemore next the the winner on peg 29 with 95-6-0.

Fourth was Richard Ablitt on peg 24 with 93-4-0, although this was an amended weight due to going over the net limit or he would have been third.

Sean Moss was fifth with 69-6-0 from peg seven and Steve Frost sixth with 60-6-0 from peg six.
