Hannah Laughton, of Newark Hockey Club, selected to play at the England Hockey Futures Cup
A youth player has been called upon by her country.
Newark Hockey Club’s Hannah Laughton has been selected to play at the England Hockey Futures Cup.
The four-day training camp is organised by England Hockey as part its player pathway and the 16-year-old, from Newark, has been called up to one of the four squads made up of players from across the country.
The cup hopes to help coaches identify and select talent for the national team’s under-18s squad.
Emily Crisp, communications officer and a team-mate of Laughton at Newark Hockey Club, said: “She really is a great talent and one to watch for the future.
“Hannah is a huge part of the club and has coached on Sunday mornings for the last three years with the under 8s.”
Laughton joined Newark aged five and has represented all the junior and academy squads.
At 13, she made her debut for the first team, where she currently plays.
Laughton has also represented Nottinghamshire at under-13 and under-15 and was selected for England Hockey’s regional performance centre squads at under-15 and under-17 level.
Elsewhere at the club, it was goals galore as every player found the back of the net in the Lindum Summer Sixes Tournament.
The club entered two teams, which were made up of a mix of players from the first, second and third team.
The firsts, who won 14 out of 18 matches, scored 68 goals as they finished second in the league, while the second team, who won eight, finished fourth overall.
The league was made up of teams from Lincolnshire and was played over nine weeks.
