Southwell City draw with Saffron Dynamo in their United Counties League Division One football match
Paddy Lally impressed on debut for Southwell City as he scored their only goal in a 1-1 draw against visitors Saffron Dynamo.
The United Counties League Division One fixture was the first one played at Brinkley for over a month.
The Zebras were the stronger team in the first half with Lally scoring in just the third minute before the Southwell offence continued to pressure the goal.
Lally was given the opportunity to start for the club’s first team after impressing in the reserves recently.
Ben Selby found Lally who made no mistake as he put the ball past the Saffron Dynamo keeper.
Southwell should have been up by multiple goals at the break with the amount of opportunities created.
Infront of 72 people, Southwell came out in the second-half up 1-0 and wanted to put more space on the board.
Saffron Dynamo rallied and had a much stronger second-half as they equalised in the 59th minute thanks to a Taylor Shilcock goal.
WIth the game now tied at 1-1, Southwell City’s goalkeeper Alex Smith was not really tested further, while the Zebra’s attackers continued to fire but were unable to find a winning goal.
In stoppage time, they hit the underside of the crossbar and soon after both teams walked off the field with a point each to show for their efforts.
Southwell will now travel to Radford on Saturday for their next league game, (kick-off 3pm).
