Review of Fisherman's Friends: The Musical at Nottingham’s Theatre Royal

A musical about Cornish fisherman that strikes for the audience emotions with reality and laughs.

Fisherman’s Friends: The Musical goes beyond nets, fish and the sea, it is a story of family, music, passion in which realities collide, combining the best of both worlds: sea shanties and an album record.

Based on a true story of Cornish singing man, it sent shivers through the audience with its tale of a stubborn father, the pub of the village, a united community and a failed London man who finds love in both a village and a woman.

The musical is an enjoyable musical trip around the country all the way from a small village in Cornwall to the big city of London.

From laughs too close to tears to actual tears of emotion, Fisherman’s Friends: The Musical is an entertaining performance that portrays the reality of working men, the difficulties of raising a family and a business and of letting go of people.

Two hours of dancing, singing and a beautiful plot that transcribes to all’s well that ends well.

I loved it when everyone stood up clapping, dancing and humming alongside the cast and happiness echoed in and out of the stage. It was brilliant and now even I want to sing! — MT
