Illuminate Women’s Music and Trio Sonorité join forces for Music In The State Chamber concert at Southwell Minster
The latest Music In The State Chamber concert at Southwell Minster is a celebration of the creativity of women.
Illuminate Women’s Music was established in 2017 by composer Dr Angela Slater to celebrate the creativity of women as composers and performers, as well as demonstrating the rich historical legacy of music written by women.
It has joined forceds with Trio Sonorité for a programme of works for piano trio that covers a large geographical and historical span, including four new works, and works from the US, Spain, and Lithuania.
The performance takes place on Sunday from 7.30pm.
Admission is free with there is a retiring collection with a suggested donation of £5.
It is the first of seven Music In The State Chamber concerts for the year.
The next will be a performance by the cathedral choristers on June 18, followed by Southwell String Quartet on July 9.
There is also a Friday lunchtime concert in the minster tomorrow (May 12) from 1.30pm to 2.15pm.
Pianist Chiara Lordi, who gave a recital at the minster last year, returns with a performance of music by Debussy, Granados, Balakirev and Ginastera.
Admission is free but there is a retiring collection for the minster’s organ scholarship.
