The Voice finalist Nicole Raquel Dennis to play Effie White in Dreamgirls tour
A finalist from television talent show The Voice has been named in the lead role of Dreamgirls, which is coming to Nottingham early next year.
Nicole Raquel Dennis will play the role of Effie White in the first ever UK tour of the musical.
She impressed judges and viewers in the show’s blind audition with a rendition of Dreamgirls mega-hit And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going alongside team mentor Jennifer Hudson.
Dreamgirls is the story of The Dreams — Effie, Lorrell and Deena — three talented young singers in the turbulent 1960s, a revolutionary time in American music history.
Join the three friends as they embark upon a musical rollercoaster ride through a world of fame, fortune and the ruthless realities of show business, testing their friendships to the limit.
It is due at Nottingham’s Theatre Royal from Tuesday, February 9, to Saturday, February 20, next year.
Nicole Raquel Dennis said: “Effie has been a dream of mine since I was a little girl and now I will get to share her with audiences around the UK. To say I’m excited is an understatement.”
The musical, which was adapted into an Oscar-winning film starring Beyoncé Knowles, Jennifer Hudson, Eddie Murphy and Jamie Foxx, features a host of classic songs.
Before opening in the UK Tour of Dreamgirls, Nicole is in the original West End company of Dear Evan Hansen (Nöel Coward Theatre) in which she plays Alana Beck.
Her other London stage credits include The Book of Mormon, Waitress and the West End production of Dreamgirls.
