A new duo called Fire And Ice are hoping to take the music industry by storm with a charity gig this month. Paul Walker on keyboards and vocals and his sister-in-law, Crystal Porter, on vocals will perform at the NSK Sports And Social Club, Elm Avenue, Newark, on Friday, September 14, in aid of The Cancer Trust. There will be a supporting disco by the Sensation Roadshow.

Fire And Ice play classic pop by the likes of Jerry Lee Lewis from the 1950s right through to the present day with songs by Katy Perry.

Paul, 32, of Queen Street, Balderton, started as a drummer in bands while at The Grove School, and has made guest appearances with The Unusual Suspects and The Paul Bally Band.

Now he has decided to concentrate more on keyboards and joined up with Crystal, 30, of Ranskill, who has studied performing arts and has been singing from a young age.

Paul said: “We have been together for 12 months now and are now making a name for ourselves. Before that I was in a duo called New Dimension with a school friend but he decided to do something different.

“I knew Crystal could sing so asked if she fancy putting a duo together and she jumped at the chance. We have done a few small gigs but this one at the NSK Sports And Social Club will be our biggest to date.

“We hope to do many more and make a name for ourselves. Who knows where that will lead us.”

Paul said they were looking for a name and came across Crystal’s Pat Benatar album.

He said: “One of the tracks was called Fire And Ice. We thought it had a good ring to it and decided to use it.

“We plays lots of cover versions, particularly rock ‘n’ roll tracks and hits from the 1960s by The Chiffons. We do songs by Patsy Cline, Gloria Gaynor, Kim Wilde, Tiffany, The Killers, Katy Perry and many more.

“I have always been interested in music. When I was little my mum and dad would take me to concerts and they would get me trying out the instruments on stage. They bought me a tambourine and I was hooked.”

Anyone wanting tickets for the gig should contact the club. Anyone wanting to book Fire And Ice can call Paul on 07909 927661.
