Newark Town Hall presents an exhibition displaying prints of the area by Charles O’Connor of Girton
A free exhibition displaying prints of the area is open until the end of summer, writes Grace Phillips.
The friends of Newark Town Hall art gallery and museum have organised the exhibition at the Spotlight Gallery, Town Hall.
Artist Charles O’Connor of Girton represents the town and the community through his art.
After working in the Grenadier Guards as a teenager he became an artist, musician, and well-renowned engraver of wood and linocuts.
His wife, Christy O’Connor embellished Charles’ monochrome prints and made the frames with many of his artwork displayed at the exhibition.
His prints were produced by Roy Stephenson, a skilled letterpress printer located in Millgate.
Charles toured the US, Hawaii, and New Zealand juggling his musical abilities, being a harpist and baritone while creating landscape portraits of indigenous people he met while travelling.
The exhibition is open from 10.30am to 1pm from Wednesday to Friday and 10.30am to 3pm on Saturday.
The exhibition is operating until the end of August at Newark Town Hall.
