National Theatre production of Michael Morpurgo’s War Horse to call at Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham, on tour

The National Theatre’s smash-hit production of War Horse, based on Michael Morpurgo’s beloved novel, is back out on tour.

The five-star rated performance will come to Nottingham’s Royal Concert Hall from May 7 to May 18, to tell the remarkable story of a young boy called Albert and his horse Joey.

At the outbreak of the First World War, Joey is sold to the Cavalry and shipped to France.

He’s soon caught up in enemy fire, and fate takes him on an extraordinary journey, serving on both sides before finding himself alone in no man’s land.

Albert, not old enough to enlist, embarks on a treacherous mission from his parents’ Devon farm, to find his beloved Joey and bring him home.

War Horse, adapted by Nick Stafford and first performed in 2007, is the most successful play in the history of the National Theatre, winning more than 25 major awards.

The moving and imaginative drama is filled with stirring music and songs, and ground-breaking puppetry work by South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company, which brings breathing, galloping horses to life on stage.

This tour of War Horse marks 110 years since the start of the First World War and follows the 40th anniversary of the publication of Michael Morpurgo’s best-selling novel.
