A street dance troupe was named as the winner of this year’s Newark’s Got Talent on Sunday.

Dance Mania was one of three acts from the 14 finalists shortlisted by the judges — Lynn Baker, George Stanton, Kevin Dawson and Susie Chambers.

The audience at the Palace Theatre, Newark, then had the final vote.

Contemporary dancer Joe Parkes won second place and a band, The Rascels, were third.

The compère for the evening, which attracted a packed crowd, was Howard Newport, of Newark.

Organiser Martin Seymour said it had been the seventh year for the competition and the closest final ever.

“All the acts were outstanding,” he said.

The other finalists were Heather Flint, A.Y.D, Holly Fallon, Stage Door Musical Theatre Group, Elle Knight, A.D.C, Freddie Magical Entertainer, Thea Brooks, Grant James, Rebecca Reid and Emily Jenkinson.

Martin is looking for sponsorship for next year’s event to help with increasing venue costs.
