The Stranglers next to headline Live at Lincoln Castle after Olly Murs, Texas, and Simple Minds previously announced

One of the longest surviving punk rock bands will be bringing their distinctive sound to Lincoln Castle next summer.

The Stranglers are one of the few remaining bands to have originated during the UK punk scene, and now the group are set to headline Live at Lincoln Castle on Friday June 13, when they will be joined by fellow punk pioneers Buzzcocks.

The Stranglers celebrated their 50th anniversary this year, and remain an enduring force in the ever-evolving world of rock music, making them undoubtedly one of Britain's most iconic and influential bands.

The group’s 19 Top 40 albums and 24 UK Top 40 singles include such hits as Peaches, No More Heroes and Walk On By, Always The Sun, Strange Little Girl and the mercurial Golden Brown, and their 19th studio album, Dark Matters was released in 2019, reaching Number 4 in the UK charts.

Following the death of frontman Pete Shelley, founding member of fellow punk pioneers Buzzcocks, Steve Diggle, took over vocal duties and Buzzcocks whose classic hits include Ever Fallen In Love (With Someone You Shouldn’t’ve), Orgasm Addict and What Do I Get? – remain a massive influence on the alt-rock and contemporary pop-punk scenes.

Their 2022 release Sonics In The Soul, the first Buzzcocks album in eight years, lived up to the band’s storied legacy. Classic Rock praised “the sound of a band rebooted and reinvigorated” while Uncut’s review concluded, “there’s easily enough here to steer the trusty old craft into new, uncharted waters, just as Shelley wanted.”

2024 saw Buzzcocks release a 45th anniversary edition of their classic compilation Singles Going Steady.

The Stranglers and Buzzcocks join pop sensation Olly Murs and Scottish rock legends Texas and Simple Minds among the headliners for Live at Lincoln Castle 2025, performing on with more to be announced.

The headline concerts are part of an ongoing partnership with Live Nation promoters Cuffe and Taylor and Lincolnshire County Council.

Cuffe and Taylor promoter Mark Harrison said: “The Stranglers are icons of British rock. Their music has been celebrated for 50 years and to have such pioneers as Buzzcocks joining them on the bill will make for a truly memorable concert.

“We can’t wait to welcome both bands to Live at Lincoln Castle.”

Lindsey Cawrey, executive member for culture at Lincolnshire County Council, added: “It’s exciting to announce The Stranglers will be playing Lincoln Castle on 13 June. They’ve created some of the best punk rock anthems from the 1970s and 1980s such as Golden Brown, No More Heroes, Always the Sun and Peaches.

“And I don't expect there will be anyone in Lincoln Castle not dancing and singing along to Buzzcocks' Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn't). I can't wait to see them!"

Texas are performing on June 15, with Olly Murs on June 25, followed by Simple Minds on June 28, with more announcements to come.
