Moonlight Serenade Orchestra UK and World Cup winner Sir Geoff Hurst roll back the years at Newark Palace Theatre
Music that filled the dancehalls during the Big Band era is brought to life again at Newark Palace Theatre.
The Moonlight Serenade Orchestra UK is at the venue on Sunday, at 3pm, with its Glenn Miller and The Big Band Spectacular.
The swinging big band recreates the million sellers of the Forties and Fifties.
Founded by trumpeter Kevin Cunningham, the Moonlight Serenade Orchestra UK has performed across the UK.
Its musicians have credits ranging from 1920s trad jazz, BBC Big Band, Jazz Funk and West End shows behind them.
Moonlight Serenade, In The Mood, Little Brown Jug, Pennsylvania 6-5000 and String of Pearls are just a few of the numbers that shot band leader Glenn Miller to world stardom.
Pieces from other band leaders including Charlie Barnet and Count Basie, not to mention songs made famous by Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, are also featured in the two-hour toe-tapping show.
There is more nostalgia at the Palace on Monday evening when footballing hero Sir Geoff Hurst pays a visit.
The England hat-trick hero from the 1966 World Cup win is on the road for a short tour of 25 dates. Geoff is 81 this year so isn’t anticipating going on the road again.
His great friend and agent Terry Baker will be interviewing him, taking him through his life and career, including that Wembley final.
Shakespeare’s Macbeth is performed at the Palace on Wednesday.
It is a full-scale production of the tragedy set in the murky Dark Ages where love, politics and witchcraft collide.
A war-worn Macbeth is told by three sisters that he is fated to become King of Scotland so beginning a series of events that lead to the destruction of Kings, friends and souls as he, and his Lady, try to cling to the tainted crown.
