World premiere production of Fisherman’s Friends: The Musical will anchor at Nottingham’s Theatre Royal week-long stay
The world premiere production of Fisherman’s Friends: The Musical has set sail on a UK tour — is about to dock for a week-long stay at Nottingham’s Theatre Royal. It is at the venue from Tuesday to Saturday next week.
It follows a sell-out, record-breaking season in Cornwall.
Fisherman’s Friends: The Musical is based on the true story of the Cornish singing sensations, Fisherman’s Friends, and the hit 2019 film about their life.
When a group of Cornish fishermen came together to sing the traditional working songs they’d sung for generations, they hoped to raise a few quid for charity. Nobody, least of all the fishermen, expected their story to end on the Pyramid stage of Glastonbury.
Packed with sea shanties, Fisherman’s Friends is a feelgood voyage about friendship, community and music.
It features hit shanties made famous by the band, including Keep Haulin’, Nelson’s Blood, No Hopers Jokers and Rogues and many more.
The cast includes James Gaddas, famous for appearances in Casualty, Bad Girls and Coronation Street, as Jim; and Robert Duncan, from Drop the Dead Donkey, Casualty, and Where the Heart Is, as Jago and Susan Penhaligon, of Bouquet Of Barbed Wire, Emmerdale, and A Fine Romance, as Maggie.
Also in the cast is Parisa Shahmir in the role of Alwyn, and X Factor finalist Anton Stephans as Leadville.
The musical is directed by James Grieve and written by Amanda Whittington with choreography by Matt Cole.
