Developers Urban and Civic give birds-eye view of Newark Southern Link Road project with new aerial images
New aerial photos released by the developer of a major roadworks project show the scale of construction.
The Newark Southern Link Road is an eagerly anticipated £100m project, which will connect the A46 at Farndon with the A1 at Fernwood south of Newark.
The project aims to reduce congestion, improve transport and create access to land for housing and businesses by completing a circular route around the town.
Following a public information and engagement event held at the YMCA Sports and Activity Village on Lord Hawke Way in Newark last month, developers Urban and Civic have released new images.
The photos show the progress being made so far in the initial phases of construction after work started on the Staple Lane end of the development at the end of August.
In total several kilometres of new and improved single-carriageway will be built alongside new sewage and drainage systems, two new bridges, a culvert and roundabouts.
Almost 900m of footpaths, 630m of cycleways and several pedestrian crossings will also be built to enable people without cars in the community to more easily navigate the area.
The road will form a border to the wider Middlebeck Development project, which once complete will add a further 3,500 houses to the south of Newark.
Before the full-scale construction could begin archaeological works have been taking place for the past few years.
A team from Oxford Archaeology have unearthed thousands of years of human history from the site, including the fascinating discovery of evidence of a previously-unknown Roman pottery industry.
The intended completion date for the majority of the Southern Link Road is set for March 2025, with the final connection to the new A46 roundabout by December 2025.
