A17 closed for weekend outside Newark between Beckingham and Leadenham as major road improvements continue
The A17 will be closed this weekend (October 14 to 17) as works to reconstruct a section of the road between Beckingham and Leadenham continue.
The road will once again close from 7pm tonight (Friday) until 6am on Monday morning and is the final of three pre-scheduled weekend road closures throughout October.
To facilitate the ongoing works, over night road closures have been taking place on weekday nights since early September from 7pm to 6am, between Sleaford Road in Beckingham to Leadenham Low Fields.
Diversions are in place for those planning to use the route:
- A17 diversion: via the A46 to the Lincoln Eastern Bypass’s A15 Sleaford Road junction
- Stragglethorpe Lane: south to Stubton Road / Brandon Road / Fenton Road-Sutton Road / A17
- High Street: Lincoln Road / Marsh Lane / Broughton Road / Norton Disney Road / Norton Road-Newark Road / Coddington Lane-Stapleford Lane /A17 at Coddington
- Newark Road: High Street / A607 / Church Lane-Hopyard Lane-Marsh Lane / High Street
Lincolnshire County Council representatives say that the works to completely resurface this stretch of road are necessary as the surface was beginning to fail, posing a risk to drivers.
This process will involve excavating the current carriageway and replacing it with over 24,000 tonnes of tarmac and stone.
Kerbs and foot ways will also be replaced, as well as works to water-proof Brant Broughton Bridge which will be undertaken during the full weekend closures.
