A46 traffic restrictions to last until September 2026 while Brehenny Engineering completes Newark Southern Link Road project

Traffic restrictions along the A46 south of Newark will remain in place for more than a year.

A roughly 700-metre-long stretch of the A46 on both the northbound and southbound carriageway has been reduced to single lane traffic.

This has been done to facilitate the final phase of Brehenny Engineering’s work on the Newark Southern Link Road — which will include a new roundabout connecting to the A46 — and will not be lifted until the completion of the project, scheduled for September 2026.

The traffic restrictions span from the Farndon Roundabout to Lodge Lane near the Elston turnoff, between Newark and Bingham.

40mph speed limits have been put in place to ensure safety of road users and construction workers.

Lay-bys within this zone are also closed and additional signage and traffic cones have been put in place to alert drivers.

Once fully complete, the Southern Link Road will connect the A46 to the A1 south of Newark via a 5km stretch of new road, with the aim of reducing congestion and improving travel times in the area.
