Cartergate Bed Centre in Newark celebrates 40 years in business with 40% off sale

An independent, family-run bed shop is celebrating 40 years in business with a special sale to say thank you to their loyal customers.

Lachlan and Yvonne Cameron set up Cartergate Bed Centre in Newark in 1985, and the shop has remained a staple of the high street in the same premises ever since.

The husband and wife duo have spent the past four decades committing themselves to providing the best possible customer service experience — something which they say sets them apart in a digital world.

“We’ve got a personal touch and wealth of experience, which you just can’t get from online shopping,” said Lachlan.

“With us you can try before you buy, and we know everything about every product, so if someone has a question we can answer it.

“We’re old fashioned, but we want the customer to know exactly what they’re getting.”

Lachlan has been selling beds since 1975, but after working his way up a store in his native Doncaster decided to branch out and set up his own business 10 years later.

Over the decades, he estimates that they must have sold well in excess of 60,000 beds, and every order is still hand written in an order book, just as it was when they first opened their doors.

“Newark has been great for us over the years,” he said. “And we have some very loyal customers.

“After Covid, we had so many wonderful people coming in to say how glad they were that we were still open and had been waiting to support us.

“Just the other day we had a woman in her 80s come in who has had five beds from us, and said she would never go anywhere else.

“Without customers like this we wouldn’t be here.”

By building such as strong connection with their customers, some have even taken their beds overseas, with the shop shipping orders across the world, to countries including Spain, Portugal, France, and as far as Hong Kong and the Caribbean.

In the UK, they have delivered beds to all corners of the country, everywhere from Wales, all the way up to Aberdeen.

Now, to say thank you for 40 years of support from the town, the shop has launched a deal where customers can get 40% off the whole range, from £200 beds, all the way up to £8,000 ones.

They offer free delivery within 50 miles of Newark, will set up the bed, and take away any packaging free of charge, which they say is all part of providing the best possible customer service experience.

“It’s about going the extra mile,” said Yvonne.

“Our delivery drivers, Matthew and Bob are the last people that our customers will see and make sure everything is set up properly — they will even pop back around to help some of our older customers flip or rotate their mattress.

“You don’t get that kind of service on the retail parks.”

She added: “Having the proper bed is important for wellbeing and how you feel. You want to feel comfortable.

“So feel free to come in and try as many as you like — we’ve even had people fall asleep before — we will handle the rest.”

Cartergate Bed Centre stocks a wide range of mattress sizes and types, customisable bed frames in a variety of styles and materials, alongside all the accompanying bedding and bedroom furniture.

The shop also works directly with manufacturers and staff regularly tour factories, meaning if a customer ever has a problem, they will be able to solve it.
