Newark's Labour Women to hold Book Café fundraiser in aid of Women's Aid and foodbank
The women's branch of Newark Labour Party will be running a book café event to raise funds for Newark Women's Aid and Newark Foodbank.
The fundraiser is taking place in response to the cost-of-living crisis currently affecting many families and it is hoped the money taken at the event will also help to provide greater access to support and advice for women and children experiencing domestic violence.
The group hopes to surpass the success of similar events the group ran in September 2021 — raising over £470. The book café is due to take place on Saturday, June 25, with hundreds of books up for sale.
Paperbacks and children's books will be priced at 50p with hardbacks £1. But it's not just books up for sale as CDs will also be on offer at just 50p each, alongside quality jigsaw puzzles for £3 each or 2 for £5.
A table with free books and other items will also be set up.
Entry to the event including a cup of tea or coffee and a biscuit will be just £1 with all proceeds from the day divided equally between Newark Women's Aid and Newark Foodbank.
Event organiser Rosemary Holland has encouraged anyone to attend.
"Come and relax in a lovely garden, close to the town centre, sit under the apple trees, have a drink, read a book and chat," she said. "We look forward to seeing you there."
The event takes place from 11am to 2pm in the back garden of 75 Baldertongate, Newark. (Closest parking is London Road carpark)
