Book of condolence opened at Southwell Minster following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
A book of condolence has been opened at Southwell Minster following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
A minster bell will also be rung 96 times — once for each year of the Queen's life — at noon, followed by a muffled peal.
The cathedral has also extended its opening hours until 7.30pm to allow the public to pay their respects.
The statement released by the Minster read: "During this time of national mourning, Southwell Minster will be staying open until 7.30pm.
"We invite you to sign the book of condolence, light a candle, and spend some time in private prayer and reflection as we remember Her Majesty The Queen."
The Church of England has also said a prayer following the death of our monarch.
The Bishop of Southwell and Nottingham, the Right Rev Paul Williams, said: "My prayers are very much with Her Majesty the Queen and her whole family, especially that they know the love and strength of God's presence is with them at this time."
