Southwell Minster to hold commemorative service on eve of funeral for Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II




Southwell Minster will host the county's principal service of thanksgiving for the life of Queen Elizabeth II this Sunday on the eve of her state funeral.

The service will take place at 3pm and will be attended by some of Nottinghamshire's highest ranking dignitaries and representatives from organisations close to the Queen's heart.

The Bishop of Southwell and Nottingham, the Rt Revd Paul Williams, will preach the service which will include a tribute to the late Queen by the Lord-Lieutenant, Sir John Peace.

Also in attendance will be the High Sheriff as well as numerous representatives from civic, military, judiciary, community groups and interfaith leaders from across the county.

All are welcome to attend, although the Minster asks that the public be seated by 2.30pm. For those unable to attend in person, the service will also be live-streamed on Southwell Minster's website.

Ahead of the main service, a special Memorial Eucharist will take place at 11am. This service will feature a performance of Fauré’s Requiem by the cathedral choir — who will also lead the singing at the afternoon service — with a sermon from the Dean of Southwell and special prayers for the King and Royal Family.

Tea and coffee will be served afterwards, and all are warmly invited.

On the day of of the state funeral as the nation says goodbye to our late monarch, Southwell Minster invites the public to attend a screening of the historic event.

The funeral will be broadcast live onto a big screen in the nave of the Minster from 10.45am, with the funeral service due to begin at 11am.

A book of condolence was opened in the Minster and will be available to sign before and after the service.
