Newark Town Council agrees to recruit deputy town clerk, with recruitment process conducted by Richard Walden Consultants
A council has given the go ahead for the recruitment of a new deputy town clerk.
Richard Walden Consultants, who previously handled the recruitment of the current town clerk, Matthew Gleadell, will be appointed to undertake and manage the recruitment of a new deputy clerk.
Newark Town Council’s finance and general purposes committee approved the creation of the role after members previously adopted a budget for the 2024/25 financial year which includes salary provision for a deputy clerk.
The new deputy clerk will be appointed to take on some of the workload from the current town clerk, such as helping with council organisation and investigating and pursuing a range of new revenue generating opportunities.
A recruitment panel shall be formed, who will specify a job description, person specification and the contractual terms of the post and conduct interviews with candidates.
The panel will also have authority to deal with any operational decisions required in relation to the recruitment process.
It was agreed that three members of the council would be included in the group, these being the current leader of the council, chair of personnel sub committee, and the chair of the finance and general purposes committee.
The panel will either have authority to agree the final appointment, or be asked to make a recommendation to the finance and general purposes committee as to the final appointment.
