Plans for affordable bungalow development at Eton Avenue, Newark, approved by Newark and Sherwood District Council
Plans to build affordable bungalows on the site of former council housing offices have been approved.
Newark and Sherwood District Council planning committee agreed the plans for 77c Eton Avenue, Newark.
The redevelopment will see the demolition of the former Newark and Sherwood District Council housing office building on the corner of Eton Avenue and Devon Road and the building of five new affordable bungalows.
The proposed site is currently around a 2000sq metre triangular shaped plot with vehicle access from Devon Road.
There will be three one-bedroom bungalows in the middle, bookended by a two-bedroom bungalow on either side.
Eleven parking spaces would be created on the site with seven for residents, two for visitors and the remaining two for maintenance vehicles to access gas facilities on site.
Associated external works include the installation of new dropped kerbs, a 1.8m timber perimeter fence to form garden and bin storage areas and electric vehicle charging points will also be required due to changing building regulations.
Existing trees on the junction of Eton Avenue and Devon Road will be retained.
The development falls within the Newark sub area where the predominant affordable housing need is 42% for two-bedroom bungalows followed by 32% for one-bedroom bungalows.
The bungalows would be built of red brick with off-white rendered section and slate grey roofing tiles.
They will also be installed with solar panels.
Committee member Mathew Skinner spoke enthusiastically about the application, saying: "Our portfolio holder in Cabinet mentioned eco-homes and very much Newark and Sherwood leading development, as we should do.
"Where do I start? Bungalows, tick. Solar panels, tick. Parking standards, tick. Street scene improvements, tick. The sooner the better."
The plans were unanimously approved by the committee.
