Newark and Sherwood District Council have warned residents of a careline phone scam targeting elderly
A council is warning residents of a scam pretending to be from a careline service.
Newark and Sherwood District Council is asking the public to stay vigilant after reports of a scam company ringing elderly residents claiming to be from the careline service and requesting card details over the phone.
They stated that this is in no way affiliated with the District Council and that they would not request bank details over the phone, and warned residents not give them to anyone claiming to be from the careline team.
The council have reported this to Trading Standards and Action Fraud. They ask that people check on any elderly or vulnerable residents they may know and remind them of the importance of remaining vigilant against scam callers.
If in doubt, the public can call 01636 650000 to verify if it is the careline team that they are speaking to.
