Reader’s letter: Disappearing green space
As a resident of Coddington since 1984, I was walking my dog and was concerned to see the crop being destroyed in the three fields from the A17 up to the footpath abutting Coddington village.
This, I now see, is phase three of the extension of industrial estate land, further to the Curry’s development.
I would like to know what Newark and Sherwood District Council’s plan is for the remaining section of land enclosing the A17/ Drove Lane area.
It seems like a slow drip policy to extend the industrial zone, which whilst being extremely attractive financially to the council, the loss of green amenity to the residents of the village, plus the adjacent industrial pollution is far from acceptable.
Although it seems that some form of development in this area is inevitable, I don't feel that industrial use is the right answer, and a need for provision of green space, that could be bordered by the two existing footpaths as a minimum, for the residents to continue to enjoy.
The extension to the industrial area should be on the northern side of the A17, and should not stretch down the southern side by default, and become Coddington Village Industrial Estate. — C. NORRIS, Coddington.
