Drug dealer jailed at Nottingham Crown Court after van stop by Nottinghamshire Police on A1 near Fernwood




A drug dealer has been jailed after police stopped a van and found a large amounts of cannabis and cash inside.

Andrew Stainton, 46, was pulled over and arrested on the A1 near Fernwood in July 2021.

During the stop officers noticed a strong smell of cannabis coming from the vehicle and found a large bag of the Class B drug under the driver’s seat.

Also recovered were a large quantity of cash was also found in a wallet along with bags containing white powder and plant matter, suspected to be magic mushrooms.

Stainton, of Burringham Road, Scunthorpe, was subsequently charged and later plead guilty to possession with intent to supply a Class B drug (cannabis), possession of a Class A drug (psilocin) and possession of a Class B drug (amphetamine).

He was jailed for 12 months when appearing before Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing yesterday (Monday November 14 2022).

Sergeant James Robertson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “As this case demonstrates we will take appropriate action in relation to anyone involved in the selling or dealing of controlled substances.

“The use of drugs causes huge damage to the lives of vulnerable people which will not be tolerated and as a force we continue to work hard every day to prevent the transit of illegal substances on our roads.”
